Information for children under 7 years of age 

“You have become a new creation, and have clothed yourself in Christ. See in
this white garment the outward sign of your Christian dignity. With your family
and friends to help you by word and example, bring that dignity unstained
into the everlasting life of heaven.” - Rite of Baptism, #99

Baptism is the first important step that a parent can take to begin the lifelong
process of faith formation for their child. When a child is baptized, they are washed clean of original sin,
are made Temples of the Holy Spirit, are welcomed into the Body of Christ - the Church.
At the same time, the parents are making a commitment to raise their child in
faith.

To have your child baptized at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, you will need to be
a registered parishioner or have written permission from the pastor of your
current parish. Call the Parish Office at 414-258-8821 to get
started! Parents need to attend a Baptism Preparation Session before
scheduling a baptism date for their child.

Emergency Baptism 

If your child is what the Catechism calls “in danger of death” and needs an
Emergency Baptism, please contact the Parish Office at 414-258-8821.

It should be known that in case of an emergency, ANYONE can baptize. All that
is needed is water and the words, ["I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”] However, this should only be done if a priest can NOT
get there in time. Since the Sacrament of Baptism can only occur once, if an
emergency baptism does occur, please notify the parish. There is a special ceremony that
can be held to include the chosen godparents and family members.
